I am *definitely* a Disney fan. Grew up going there in Southern California, it was my first job, and I was trained at Disney World in management for another job I had after the Marine Corps. All of my best memories are Disney- and it's rare I haven't enjoyed any of their films. My appreciation of Disney is from the inside-out, learning so much behind the scenes beyond just being a 'guest'.

I have an appreciation for Disney definitely. I just am not sure how much I agree with selling little girls on the fantasy life. Sadly, life is not a fairy tale... Far from it... Fraught with highs and lows and everything in between. I also spent a good deal of time in Orlando, so that soured me a little. But I am amazed at the skills of the animators, story board artists, etc.

The way I see that- Disney didn't event those stories. They are mostly Grimm's Fairy tales that people love. Life isn't a fairy tale, but dreams and stories are awesome rather they are real or not. I mean, Harry Potter isn't real, but I'm all for the story anyway. My son always dreamed of getting his invite to Hogwarts - I knew it wouldn't happen, but I encouraged the dream :)



Imagination is a healthy thing. Fiction gives us something to think about when life is being 'shit'. If it weren't for stories... most people would have zero reprieve. Some people do get a 'dream'... in some fashion or the other. And the stories are just metaphors for their reality.

I grew up in Anaheim, where Disneyland is. I never got soured of any of it. It was always just as magical to me. I started at Disney with High School work experience, then got hired afterward, and stayed on for 2 years till I joined the Marines. It's where I went to get away from my crappy world at home- and it's the backdrop to all my good memories during those times.

I definitely do agree with that. It is nice to have an escape from the crappy world. If I were able to have kids, we would be at Disney. I would never ever want to take that from a child. In fact, watching children there and the wonderment in their eyes is the magic to me. My magical place growing up was Kennywood amusement park and Cedar Point amusement park. They were magical and I have some of my best ever memories from there.
